Fujifilm X-H2: A Splendid Camera for Stills and Videos

The Fujifilm X-H2 is a delight for pixel aficionados seeking room to crop and video experts trying to reach beyond 4k. The camera has a new 40 MP BSI CMOS sensor seen for the first time in a consumer camera. However, the sensor does not offer speed benefits like the stacked CMOS chip but lowers the read noise and keeps the costs low. As we are past the Fujifilm XH2 release date of September 29, 2022, we will keep away from Fuji XH2 rumors and instead have a close look to evaluate the camera right in front of us now. Those new to Fuji or coming over from another camera system would love the camera because of its glorious colors. However, Fuji users might lament the need for ergonomics they have been used to. However, you can gain a lot from the tradeoff.

Fujifilm X-H2 Ergonomics and Features Have a Brainy Appeal

Taking cues from Fujifilm news and after witnessing the camera, one must admit that the practical camera appeals more to the brain than the heart. The camera’s ergonomics fulfill the practical needs of photographers but could have incorporated a few more to make it more appealing.  Everything said the Fujifilm camera picture quality is superb, which you rarely find in cameras with an APS-C sensor.

Besides the exciting new sensor, the camera has the latest image processing engine, X Processor 5 that produces images of 8k/30p and 6.2k/30p quality that look exceptionally beautiful. In addition, you can shoot and record DCI 4k videos at 60p in 4:2.2 10bit externally and  4:2.0  8-bit internally via HDMI with up to 160 min recording time. The XH2 has an ISO range of 64-51200.

Other features include a 5.76M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with 0.80 X-magnification and a tilting-3-inch touchscreen LCD with a resolution of 1.62 million dots. Above all, the camera has a 5-axis IBS (in-body image stabilization) that provides seven shutter steps of compensation for still photography. There are slots for CFexpress Type-B and Dual UHS-II SD memory cards.

The camera’s battery lasts 720 shots on a single charge, and with USB-C charging and Bluetooth connectivity, the camera offers several filtering effects and shooting modes.

How do the Features Work?

Setting aside the debate about whether the XH2 is the best Fuji mirrorless camera, it’s the first X-series camera with the Pixel Shift Multi-Shot feature, which can automatically take 20 shots of 160 MP images with excellent details. Moreover, the camera can automatically detect moving objects such as cars, birds, animals, planes, bikes, and trains with support from the deep learning abilities of the X-Processor’s AI.

The Camera Design

The XH-2 is a hefty camera weighing 1.5 lbs. without a lens and measuring 5.4×3.7x 3.3 inches (WHD). The deep handgrip makes the camera suitable for larger lenses but at a smaller prime -the Fujifilm XH2s price is $1,999 in the US for the camera body only.

The Fujifilm X-H2 is dust and splash-resistant for shooting comfortably in snowy or rainy weather.
