The Money Heist Spinoff is Set for Release in 2023

There’s good news for those anxious about the Money Heist spinoff and asking, ‘Will Money Heist have a sequel?’ At the end of September, Netflix announced at a press conference about going ahead with a spin-off of Money Heist, the English title of the hit Spanish series La Casa De Papel.

Money Heist Spinoff

The original Money Heist was unique because it was more than just an action series. It had adequate doses of drama, action, thriller, and romance that helped the series become a global sensation. The original Heist became a phenomenon that inspired Netflix to embark on a project to create a spin-off Money Berlin series. It’s not the first time that Netflix is expanding the franchise.

A First Look at the Trailer

Netflix has yet not confirmed the Money Heist spin-off release date. However, considering the production work has just begun in October, the Berlin Money Heist will most likely be released sometime in 2023. Netflix released a trailer for the prequel series Berlin which revolves around the character of Andres de Fonollosa and focuses on introducing the cast of the new series. Instead of the Professor and his team of eight that pull off the greatest robbery in Spanish history, as seen in the original Money Heist, the trailer confirms that Berlin is the central character of the new series, accompanied by five new members to form a group of six. The new characters are Keila, Roi, Bruce, Damian, and Cameron. The trailer provides insights into each of the characters, and there is a strong rumor about the return of the Professor, as he is Berlin’s brother.

The show will likely focus on the characters’ relationships and even the events that culminated in the great robbery. The new series shows the younger years of Berlin the character is likely to have more depth and dimension.

The Cast

Andres de Fonollosa, aka Berlin, is the most sparkling character, and Pedro Alonso is his usual self essaying the role of the protagonist in the spin-off. The audience’s intense love for the character had earlier compelled the makers to bring it alive from the dead but in patches. Now, yielding to fan pressure, the series creators Esther Martinez Lobato and Alex Pina give a completely different show to the character. The Money Heist spin-off cast includes Michelle Jena playing Keila, an eminent electronic engineering professional. Tristan Ulloa plays the role of a philanthropic professor Damian who is Berlin’s confidant.  Begona Vargas gets under the skin of Cameron, a kamikaze who loves living on the edge. Julio Pena Fernandez essays the character of Berlin’s faithful squire Roi and Joel Sanchez as Bruce, the man who never tires of action.

David Baroccal, David Oliva, Lobato, and Pina have written the eight episodes of the Money Heist spinoff, and the directors are David Baroccal, Geoffrey Cowper, and Albert Pinto. The shooting began on October 3, and the locations are in Paris and Madrid.
