AOC cu34g2x Ultrawide Gaming Monitor is One of the Best

The AOC CU34G2X is one of the best gaming monitors with excellent visuals resulting from its superior and accurate color range and high native contrast. The AOC ultrawide monitor gaming monitor comes with Adaptive Sync support despite not having any AMD or Nvidia official certification that supports variable refresh rate (VRR). However, FreeSync and G-Sync work fine on the 144 Hz monitor, upholding AOC’s reputation for producing high-performing gaming monitors.

We begin this AOC CU34G2X review by describing the specifications that should give a fair idea about what to expect from the high-performing curved screen that can delight gamers.

AOC CU34G2X– Specifications

Since the size of the monitor impacts the viewing pleasure, it needs to be mentioned that the monitor is truly ultrawide, measures 34 inches diagonally, and has a resolution of 3440×1440 that provides an immersive gaming experience. Moreover, the monitor has a 1500R curve that brings the edges of the screen within the field of gamers’ vision. Response time is 1 ms, brightness is 300 nits, and contrast is 3000:1. The monitor without speakers has the latest connectivity with three video ports – 2X HDMI 2.0 and 2X Display Port 1.2 and USB 3.2 port 4xdown and 1x up.

The AOC CU34G2X dimensions of the panel without base are 31.8×15.6 to 20.6 x 10.5 inches, and the bezel at the top and sides is 0.3 inch while at the bottom it is 0.9 inch. The monitor weighs 8.1 kg and comes with a 3-year warranty. That’s all about AOC CU34G2X specs.

Image Quality

The monitor uses Samsung’s curved Vertical Alignment (VA) panel with a peak brightness of 300 nits, an incredible static contrast ratio of 3000:1 with proper 8-bit color depth, and viewing angles of 178 degrees. The images are highly expressive because of the smooth relationship between the brightest and the darkest tones manifested by the bright whites and deep blacks, as expected from VA screens. The colors are robust and accurate, although not as vibrant as seen on IPS panel monitors. However, the colors are more lifelike and saturated. Although it isn’t mentioned anywhere, the AOC 34 ultrawide monitor allows you to set the color depth to 10-bit with the help of dithering in your GPU’s driver settings to achieve smoother gradients. The 3440×1440 screen resolution ensures a high pixel density of about 110 pixels per inch that effectively provides plenty of screen space with sharp and vivid details without scaling.

Although the AOC ultrawide monitor has a quick overall response time, you must accept the black smearing typical in VA panels. Moreover, the monitor is not ideal for co-op gaming because of the high native contrast ratio that tends to narrow the viewing angle. To deal with the black smearing, you can lower the monitor’s refresh rate to 120 HZ or use Motion Blur Reduction (MBR) technology which, accompanied by backlight strobing, reduces the perceived motion blur.

Despite the prevalence of blacks, the AOC CU34G2X monitor produces an incredible image quality with crisp details and vivid colors that assure an immersive gaming experience.
