Aeterna Noctis – The New Switch Version that is Complex and Addictive

The Aeterna Noctis was first launched on PlayStation in December 2021, and this year the Aeterna Noctis switch release date was on November 4. The conversion is solid for a hybrid version on Nintendo, considering a stable frame rate. This new Metroidvania is inspired by some genre greats, such as Hollow Knights and Symphony of the Knights though it is not quite up there with them.

Aeterna Noctis – Game Overview

The game comes from the Spanish Aeternum Game studio that shows Chaos, creating the world of Aertena and blessing the people of the land with free will. Factions of those who follow darkness and light clash to take over control of Aeterna. Chaos is displeased and curses the faction leaders with immortality. The leaders are destined to battle for eternity and maintain peace for Aeterna.

The user of the Aeterna Noctis represents the King of Darkness and finds himself waking up in a ruined town. He realizes he must ascend to the heavens to battle his enemies, but to get there, he must collect the seven fragmented pieces of power belonging to the King’s shrine. He loses most of his power, and now they are locked behind the ten doors in the temple of the Kings. He must get the keys that are scattered in the world. The game challenge is provided by each door which, after completion, restores powers step by step.

Aeterna Noctis is a difficult game. The challenge, however, comes more from the monotony than from excitement. The example of tedium comes from the 16 areas in the Aeterna game, each with some form of an enemy that shoots a projectile on death. It is not difficult to dodge these projectiles, but one has to wait on the side to go away.

The challenges in Aeterna Noctis platforms are better. One can feel like fitting into any hardcore platformer such as Celeste with no problems. However, this is not one of those games, and here the deaths can be more frustrating in the context of Metroidvania’s health bar. The platformer segments continue to improve, and the user gains more power over time, successfully pulling off hardcore challenges.

The only issue with the Aeterna Noctis switch is the load time; otherwise, it runs flawlessly. Loading screens can be anywhere between 7 to 15 seconds. Sometimes death takes the user back to another area. The loading screen again adds to the frustration in this new environment. There are more glitches, such as several hard crashes, and weird experiences, like being unable to move to the sides unless one jumps. The game is patchable and certainly not unplayable.

Though there are some problems and the port is imperfect, one can enjoy the Aeterna Noctis on Nintendo Switch. The enjoyment part is more because of the difficulty mode in this version. The overall Aeterna Noctis review by critics have been fair so far, and even the Aeterna Noctis price is affordable at $29.99

Conclusion

Aeterna Noctis has plenty of potential though one feels that a shorter game can be more focused and fantastic. Here it seems the developer got more ambitious, resulting in a slog due to the tedious difficulty. However, all said and done, the Aeterna Noctis has some excellent.
