The Xiaomi Black Shark 5 Pro is the latest addition to the Black Shark gaming series phones from the Chinese smartphone maker that gained a good reputation in the market. The fifth generation of Black Shark phones is the most powerful gaming smartphone from Xiaomi and packs high-end hardware for an excellent gaming experience. Since the launch of the phone in March, there are three models available, but none are suitable for everyday use like any other smartphone. After all, the gaming smartphone aims at providing a superb gaming experience and not general entertainment like other smartphones. The most significant aspect of the Xiaomi black shark 5 is its high-power performance that supports high-end titles at the peak graphics settings without any issues. Thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and 12 GB of RAM, that turns the device into a beast.
Xiaomi Black Shark 5 Pro – Specs and Features
The decent-looking Black Shark 5 Pro has a metal frame, curved glass back panel, and physical pop-up gaming triggers. The phone measures 163.9×76.5×9.5 mm (HWD) and is a bit heavy at 220 grams. The 6.67-inches OLED display has a resolution of 1080×2400 pixels with an aspect ratio of 20:9 and a refresh rate of 144 HZ. The phone derives its power from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 octa-core chipset supported by Android 12 OS. The phone is available in three configurations of 256 GB storage/8 GB RAM, 256 GB storage / 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage / 16 GB RAM.
The camera setup comprises a 16 MP wide-angle front camera and three rear cameras – wide angle 108 MP, ultra wide-angle 13 MP, and telephoto macro 5 MP. For video capture, there’s a rear camera to capture 4k videos @30/60 fps with options of 1080p at higher speeds of 240 and 960 fps. The Black Shark 5 Pro has a 4650 mAh battery and a finger reader.
The speakers of the Black Shark 5 Pro are exceptional and could be the best ones found till now in smartphones. The claim seems quite reasonable because the phone ranks at the top of the DXOMarks audio testing. Besides the vast soundstage, the positional accuracy is immaculate, especially for games like PUBG Mobile. The treble is clean, the mids are detailed, and there’s enough low-end grunt. Although gamers primarily use headphones, they would highly enjoy the speakers’ sound if they choose to go without the headphones.
There is nothing new in the Joy UI that runs Black Shark 5 Pro except that it’s a new name for the well-known MIUI because these are identical in looks and performance. You will find the same multi-tasking menu, the same launcher, and the control center is the same too and needs pulling down from the top right-hand side. Those familiar with MIUI will feel highly comfortable interacting with the new UI.
The battery life of the Xiaomi Black Shark 5 Pro is below expectations. However, gamers can overlook it by taking recourse to bypass charging for an uninterrupted power supply.
