Sony LinkBuds are conventional earbuds that grab eyeballs due to their ring-shaped design that helps stay in touch with your surroundings without relying on transparency mode. But now that Sony LinkBuds- S has hit the market, it is drawing all attention as it happens with anything new. Sony LinkBuds – The Inspiration behind Sony LinkBuds-S
This LinkBuds review will provide more insights into the evolution of Sony earbuds as witnessed during the successive launches of the LinkBuds. Sony released the first iteration of the earbuds in February 2022 that were unique in design despite being the conventional wireless earbuds. The LinkBuds performed excellently, especially in canceling noise by merely ensuring a comfortable fit. Although users never expected Sony to release anything similar anytime soon, the company sprang a surprise by launching the LinkBuds-S in the mid-year. There should be no doubt that the success of Sony link buds was a great inspiration behind the LinkBuds-S.
Bridging the gap
The LinkBuds S is an improvement from the previous edition of LinkBuds. Despite maintaining almost a similar design, it includes the feature of ANC or active noise cancellation not found in the earlier version. It seems that Sony’s intention of launching two versions of the earbuds in close succession was to bridge some gaps in price and functionality. The price of LinkBuds –S is between that of LinkBuds ($159) and WF-1000XM4 ($278). The LinkBuds – S will cost $199.99 in black and white colors. Sony takes a similar approach in terms of functionality too. Moreover, the LinkBuds-S scores over WF-1000XM4 in a comfortable fit that makes it ideal for wearing during workouts.
The earbuds have speakers with a 5mm driver and have an IPX4 rating for water resistance. Each earbud weighs only 4.8 grams, has Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity and the battery lasts for 6 hours of playing on a single charge. Additionally, the charging case provides 14 hours of playtime. Charging for 5 minutes with the charger case should support 60 minutes of playback. It takes 2 hours to charge the earbuds fully from zero.
Sony Headphones Connect app
To optimize the use of Sony LinkBuds-S, you must install the Sony Headphones Connect app on your smartphone. The app shows the battery level of the earbuds and the charging case. After installing the software, wear the earbuds to complete the pairing of the Sony earbuds and the app. It’s easy to connect the earbuds with Windows and Android devices as it supports Microsoft Swift Pair and Google First Pair.
The app helps to back up and restore the settings of Sony LinkBuds via the cloud and launch the Music Center app.
