‘The Adam Project’ Spoiler Review: The Latest Ryan Reynolds Sci-Fi Movie On Netflix

Ryan Reynolds’s latest sci-fi Netflix movie, “The Adam Project,” also stars Zoe Saldaña, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, Walker Scobell, and Catherine Keener. It is directed by Shawn Levy, who also directed Free Guy, which starred Reynolds. The Adam Project release date was March 11. However, some critics have already panned it, even though it was expected to be a crowd-pleaser.

Summary

At the beginning of the movie, young Adam (Walker Scobell) discovers an injured guy on his property while his widowed mother (Jennifer Garner) is out on a date. The person (Ryan Reynolds) is shown to be an older version of himself. Big Adam confesses that he has time-traveled to discover why his wife (Zoe Saldana) is missing and maybe try to find her.

Adam’s father (Mark Ruffalo) invented the technology called “Project Adam” that allows someone to travel across time, but his business partner, Maya Sorian, uses it for sinister purposes (Catherine Keener). Sorian and her robot-like warriors have tracked Big Adam back in time, endangering his and his younger self’s lives.

The Adam Project Review

The film’s story looks to be tugging in different directions, even though it flows implicitly. This is a narrative of a guy reuniting with his younger self while searching for his missing wife, trying to make up for past wrongdoings against a mourning mother, or meeting with his deceased father for a final farewell. The Adam Project didn’t delve deeply into any of the storylines mentioned above, resulting in some superficial platitudes about love and loss.

The idea that the historic chronology should not be changed is repeated several times throughout the film. Films about time travel, such as Back to the Future, created this norm. The climactic ending of The Adam Project would indicate that time travel has no use other than to reflect on one’s past.

The dialogue between Adam and his younger self is one of the film’s highlights. Reynolds and Scobell make an excellent team, teasing each other with humorous interjections. The two lead actors have fantastic chemistry in this new Ryan Reynolds movie. Both young Adam and older Adam appear to need each other as they mourn the death of their father, Louis. The inclusion of Mark Ruffalo gives another element to the partnership.

The action scenes and visual effects of this Ryan Reynolds new movie are excellent, coupled with character-revealing monologues. Walker Scobell as Young Adam matched Reynolds’ sarcasm and wit rather than the other way around. His acting made it plausible to believe in their oneness as variants of the same character. Other A-listers lend their support brilliantly to the leading pair. However, with the strong soundtrack accompanying the action, some parts in the third act might be a little monotonous to digest.

Verdict

The Adam Project is a fun movie to see with the whole family. With sharp dialogues and excellent soundtracks, it glides along nicely. It’s an enjoyable streaming film that falls into the mediocre category yet still stands out.
