A Review on the Infamous Novel – Little Women

Little Women is a novel written by Louisa May Alcott. It was first published in 1868 and became an instant success. It was published in 1868 and 1869, in two volumes. The book tells the story of four sisters – Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March – who are growing up in Concord, Massachusetts during and after the U.S. Civil War.

The story is set in the 1860s to 1870s in America, a time when there were many changes happening: women were starting to have more rights and more jobs; there was a lot of tension between soldiers who fought for the North and soldiers who fought for the South, and children were being sent away from their families because they had lost their homes due to fires or floods. Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March live with their mother and they are left to take care of themselves for much of the time because their father is away at war during most of the story. The novel touches on many important aspects of women’s lives including their education, work opportunities, and financial independence.
