Huawei P50 Pro Review: A Flagship Phone that Can Compete with the Best

Huawei has again proved that it can manufacture flagship phones that match a handset from other brands. They have a track record with the Mate and P series of phones in terms of designs, camera, and other features, and the Huawei P50 Pro continues in the same fashion.

With Google services not available, Huawei has developed its Android-based platform with many regional apps available such as Tok-Tok and Snapchat, while WhatsApp and Instagram are missing.

Design

Leaving out the software issue, the design of the Huawei P50 Pro is impressive. The looks are gorgeous, slim, and light and the phone fits nicely in hand. The phone feels and looks premium and can compete with any leading brand. The availability of colors varies according to region, and it is available in Cocoa Gold and Golden Black colors in UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Performance

The Processor powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 ensures impressive performance, with the apps downloading quickly and running smoothly. The RAM of 8GB ensures that the phone is zippy while the storage comes at 256 GB, adequate for an average user. Another fall out of the U.S. sanctions is the unavailability of 5G support.

Camera and Battery

The Huawei P50 Pro is known for its mobile photography with its fantastic primary camera, and it can capture brilliant shots in any condition. The phone comes with a pill-shaped bump with four AI-powered Leica cameras. The primary camera has a 50 MP sensor, and this is teamed with a 64MP telephoto lens that offers 3.5x optical zoom. It also has a monochrome sensor of 40 MP and a 13 MP ultrawide lens.

Though the capacity is not the biggest with its 4360 mAh battery, the P50 Pro battery life is good enough to last at least 6-7 hours with a single charge if it is moderately used. The phone also offers 66 W of wired charging and 50 W of wireless charging to top up when needed in an emergency.

Huawei P50 Pro release date and price

The Huawei P50 was announced in China last year and is rolled out globally now. The phone is currently released in Saudi Arabia and UAE. At the same time, it is expected to be rolled out in UK and Europe in due course though no exact dates have been announced yet. Huawei does not sell its phone in the U.S. or Australia.

The Huawei P50 Pro price of a single configuration of 8GB RAM and 256 GB storage is AED 3,999. It offers better value for money capacity-wise when compared to Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra or the iPhone 13 Pro.

  • Google services, WhatsApp, and Instagram are not available
  • No 5G capability
  • Ultrawide and telephoto does not offer the best color accuracy

Final thoughts

The Huawei P50 Pro offers everything expected from a Flagship phone in 2022. The other positive development is getting apps on their platform despite restrictions. For users, having this phone depends on how much Google services they use.
