Best Graphics Card – An Overview

The best graphics card of 2021 was right in front of us on screen but an elusive beast thanks to the global chip supply crunch. Also, the prices fluctuated a lot due to erratic demand and supply.  As we expect the supply to normalize, here are a few tips on the best graphics card to buy if one is unsure.

The new scenario is that the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is becoming competitive again with the Radeon RX 6800 XT launch. Both AMD and Nvidia are now in the running for the top GPU of 2021.

Check out these 5 top graphics cards for 2021

  • Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080

This is the best PC gaming at the moment with its incredible next-gen performance. The Nvidia’s latest RTX 3080 is superior to the previous RTX 20 series. Considering the price of around $699 as against the most expensive graphics card at $1200 2800 RTX. This card not only match the RTX 2800 but outperformed with its ray-tracing performance.

Specifications

  • CUDA cores; 8,704Base clock: 1,440 MHz Boost clock 1,710 MHzTFLOPs:
  • 76Memory: 10GB GDDR6XMemory clock: 19 GT/s
  • Memory bandwidth: 760 GB/s
  • MD Radeon RX 6800 XT

MD Radeon RX 6800 XT

Though this graphic card is slower than 3080 at 4K, it is cheaper also. It is the best gaming card with a highly competitive graphic card worth considering for a PC gamer with 4K in their mind. The RX 6800 XT is cheaper by $50 with two years’ worth of developer support. It has moderate ray tracing and DLSS.

Specifications

  • RDNA cores: 4,608Base clock: 1,825 MHzBoost clock: 2,250 MHzTFLOPs: 20.74
  • Memory: 16 GB GDDR6Memory clock: 16 GT/s
  • Memory bandwidth: 512 GB/s
  • Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

The RTX 3060 Ti is similar to the RTX 3070 as both utilize GA104 GPU and the same 8GB of GDDR6 memory across a 256-bit bus. This reasonably priced graphic card below $400 is   20% cheaper than RTX 3070. If one calculates the performance per dollar, this diminutive card stacks up well with its resolutions and decent ray-tracing capabilities. The disadvantage is that it is 17% less capacity in core count.

Specifications

  • CUDA cores: 4,864Base clock: 1,410 MHzBoost clock: 1,665 MHzTFLOPs: 16.20
  • Memory: 8GB GDDR6Memory clock: 14 GT/s
  • Memory bandwidth: 448 GB/s
  • Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070

For every gamer, this graphic card is the reason to upgrade. This affordable RTX 3070 has the ability to match top performances like the RTX 2080 Ti for half the price tag. It is priced at $499, and it has 4K capable graphics that do not require much fiddling to reach playable frame rates. The credentials of its gaming performance are impressive with a DLSS that improves performance, with a bit of loss in clarity, and other features like Reflex and Broadcast and Reflex. The only annoying feature is its 12-pin power connector.

Specifications

  • CUDA cores: 5,888Base clock: 1,500 MHzBoost clock: 1,725 MHzTFLOPs: 20.37
  • Memory: 8GB GDDR6Memory clock: 14 GT/s
  • Memory bandwidth: 448 GB/s
  • AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT

This new challenger to the RTX 3090 with an excellent 4K performance is too good for a price that is one-third of RTX 3090.

It comes with an assurance that the RTX 3080 cannot make, such as 16GB of GDDR6 memory, which is greater by 6GB greater than the GDDR6X memory on the green team card. Remembering this, the raw gaming alone, the RX 6900 XT is a low-priced alternative to the RTX 3090.  This is the reason to buy a PC gamer without any ulterior motives of a pro-creator variety. The other reason why this graphic card is not on top of the list is that its 300 $ extra price tag is for a performance that is not much better than an RTX 3080. Also, its ray-tracing acceleration lags behind the competition.

Specifications

  • RDNA cores: 5,120Base clock: 1,825 MHzBoost clock: 2,250 MHzTFLOPs: 23.04
  • Memory: 16GB GDDR6Memory clock: 16 GT/s
  • Memory bandwidth: 512 GB/s

What is the best graphics card?

The question that arises is which is better, GTX or RTX. The GTX prefix denotes the earlier Nvidia graphics cards that did not have the extra AI or the ray tracing silicon that the RTX prefixed graphic cards do. The RTX   cards were introduced with the RTX-20 series three years back.
